The Story Behind “That’s My Boo”

Some songs are written because they’re catchy.

Some are written because they’re true.

“That’s My Boo” came from looking across the table at the woman I’ve chosen every day for nearly three decades and realizing something simple… after all we’ve experienced, she’s still my boo.

Life changes us.

We’ve celebrated victories, walked through challenges, traveled the world, laughed until we cried, and learned that real love isn’t about perfection. It’s about making the decision to keep choosing each other.

In today’s culture, relationships are often treated as temporary. This song is my reminder that lasting love is still possible. It doesn’t happen by accident… it grows through commitment, grace, forgiveness, friendship, and joy.

Musically, I wanted the record to feel like a warm summer evening with someone you never get tired of being around. A blend of neo-soul, R&B, and feel-good grooves that makes you smile, dance, and remember your own love story.

Whether you’ve been together for six months or sixty years, I hope this song reminds you of the person who still makes you smile when they walk into the room.

Why I Wrote “One Nation”

I wrote “One Nation” in 2009 during a time when I watched our country’s leaders become increasingly divided. It seemed that too much energy was being spent fighting one another instead of serving the people they were elected to represent. Compassion often took a back seat to politics, and it left many Americans feeling unheard.

As I watched Congress and the political climate unfold, one thought stayed with me: We were losing sight of each other.

The song wasn’t written to support one political party or another. It was written from a place of hope, a belief that love, compassion, respect, and faith are stronger than division.

Years later, the message feels just as relevant. Our nation is still wrestling with polarization, anger, and the tendency to see people as opponents instead of neighbors. We may disagree on policies and perspectives, but we should never lose our humanity.

“One Nation” is my reminder that unity doesn’t require uniformity. We don’t all have to think alike to treat one another with dignity, listen with empathy, and care for the people around us.

My prayer is that this song encourages people to choose love over ego, compassion over conflict, and understanding over division.

Because when we remember that we all share this journey together, we move one step closer to becoming the nation we aspire to be.

How “You Are My Way” Came Together

Some songs begin with a melody.

Some begin with a lyric.

“You Are My Way” began with a realization.

There have been moments in my life when I didn’t have all the answers. Times when the road ahead wasn’t clear, when disappointment, uncertainty, and brokenness could have easily pulled me in the wrong direction. In those moments, I discovered that God wasn’t just showing me the way… God was my way.

That’s where this song was born.

I wanted to write something that felt personal but also universal. A song for anyone who’s ever wondered what comes next, who’s struggled to trust the process, or who’s needed a reminder that God is faithful even when life doesn’t make sense.

The lyrics became a declaration rather than just a prayer. Instead of asking God to reveal a path, I found myself proclaiming:

“You are my way.”

Musically, I wanted the song to reflect that journey. The warm Rhodes piano, soulful groove, and gospel influence create space to worship while still feeling grounded in everyday life. It’s the kind of song you can listen to during your morning drive, your quiet time, or when you simply need to remember who is leading your steps.

More than anything, I hope this song encourages you to trust God even when the destination isn’t visible. Faith isn’t about seeing every turn in the road… it’s about knowing the One who is leading you.
